Background: A Decade of Relentless Struggle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A native of Diksal village, Parner Taluka, Sunil Chaudhary has been at the forefront of social justice battles for over a decade. When the Parner Sugar Factory \u2014 a Rs 3,500 crore enterprise and economic lifeline of the taluka \u2014 was systematically destroyed through corrupt practices, Chaudhary mounted a legal challenge that spanned 10 years and 17 Writ Petitions in the Bombay High Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faced with refusal from more than 20 senior lawyers, he made an extraordinary decision \u2014 to study law himself. He assembled a 5-member legal team, secured 7\/12 land records in the names of 16,000 members, introduced the concept of Judicial Accountability to the taluka by placing judicial errors on record, and brought the case to its final stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surviving Threats and Abduction<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his fight to reclaim Rs 110 crore worth of illegally occupied temple trust land, Chaudhary faced extreme retaliation. He was abducted from within the Chief Officer’s cabin at Parner Nagar Panchayat and threatened with death. Police intervention saved his life. Earlier, when murder contracts were placed against him using money he himself had lent to the perpetrators, he responded by filing 20 criminal cases within a single month, resulting in the externing of the key accused from Ahmednagar district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Institution Building<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In parallel with his legal battles, Chaudhary co-founded the Kukadi Sahakari Patsanstha (Cooperative Credit Society) as Managing Director, mobilising deposits of Rs 1.5 crore in a short span \u2014 providing an alternative financial lifeline to a taluka where most credit institutions had collapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reaction to the Appointment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On his election, Chaudhary said: “This position is not an honour \u2014 it is a responsibility. Our mission is to ensure that the human rights of Maharashtra’s common citizens are protected and that corruption is challenged through every legal means available.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior agricultural journalist and social activist Vijay Gaikwad (Takli Dhokeshwar) congratulated Chaudhary, saying: “Leadership forged in struggle is the most durable kind.
