Someone quit their IT job and is now earning crores from farming. Someone else left a comfortable life abroad, returned to India, tried a new experiment, and is raking in millions annually. Stories and videos pour in \u2014 organic farming, vegetables, agricultural waste \u2014 all earning lakhs. I have been watching this closely for the past year. This doesn&#8217;t happen on its own. On the other, how do stories of crores earned through farming suddenly flood social media? I deliberately read and watch such stories \u2014 and the dishonesty in them becomes apparent quite easily. Who is bringing these fraudulent stories forward? Why?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>If you think carefully, the primary motive is to downplay the seriousness of rising farmer suicides. These stories lure new, unsuspecting people into farming \u2014 and they almost certainly fail. Bringing naive people into farming and ruining them is itself a profitable racket. Any new farming experiment demands an investment of lakhs \u2014 with many beneficiaries. The exploiters have no concern for the farmer&#8217;s welfare. Keeping this chain alive is, in effect, the government&#8217;s unofficial policy \u2014 and these bogus success stories are its official trap.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>These success-story farmers are highly educated \u2014 retired IAS officers, IT professionals, NRIs. Naturally, most people conclude that only such minds can succeed in farming. Those who die by suicide under debt are then labelled as simply &#8220;not capable.&#8221; Once this belief is planted, society&#8217;s sensitivity toward farmer suicides dulls automatically. It can only fill one&#8217;s stomach and offer the joy of living. Only those who are financially stable and deeply connected to the soil can pursue such farming. YouTube videos made the idea irresistible. I bought fish seed, nets, and feed from Ahmednagar \u2014 around \u20b923,000\u201324,000. We released 13,000 fish.
